The Los Angeles County Bar Association is seeking attorney volunteers to represent individuals in immigration proceedings. They are offering an orientation for volunteers on Wednesday, January 27, at the Los Angeles County Bar Association, 1055 West 7th Street in Los Angeles.
Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. and the program will run from 5 to 7 p.m.
Each participating attorney will be asked to do one master calendar hearing per month. Pro bono attorneys will arrive on Wednesdays and Fridays at designated courtrooms to participate in the panel. They will be matched with respondents, who will speak confidentially about their situation. Once the respondents have been given counsel and advice they can proceed with the attorney back to the immigration judge to plead their case.
