The University of Texas School of Law will host its annual Corporate Counsel Institute on Thursday and Friday, April 14 and 15, at the InterContinental Dallas, 15201 Dallas Parkway.
The program will be repeated in Houston on Thursday and Friday, April 28 and 29. It will run from 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
On Thursday, topics that will be covered include procurement contracts - what makes a good one, employment and compliance with FLSA, compliance programs - whistleblowers, an overview of the Dodd-Frank whistleblower provisions, and preparing your client for a deposition or a trial. In a discussion titled Effective Litigation Management with panelists Celeste deLorge Flippen, JCPenny Corp., Inc., and Yvette Ostolaza, Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, in Dallas and William B. Allsion, Allison & Shoemaker LLP and Reid Grayson Gettys, Exxon Mobil Corp. in Houston, the panelists will share how they have increased efficiencies and lowered costs through creative fee structures, ADR alternatives, in-sourcing litigation, partnering with outside counsel, and streamlining internal and external case procedures.
On Friday, protecting the in-house attorney-client privilege, powerful strategies for effective negotiations, managing public perceptions in times of crisis, IP issues, and ethical issues for in-house counsel will be covered.
