The University Of Texas School Of Law has scheduled Essential Employment Law - A Practical Course in The Basics, on three dates in three locations.
On Thursday, September 15, it will be presented at The Four Seasons Hotel in Austin, on Thursday, September 22, it has been scheduled at the Hyatt Regency Houston, and on Wednesday, October 12, it will move to the Belo Mansion in Dallas.
It will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. all three days.
Instructors Connie L. Cornell, a founding partner of Cornell Smith & Mierl, LLP, and Michael W. Fox, a shareholder in the Ogletree Deakins Austin office, will cover the basics of the law in the morning and its practical application in the afternoon. Morning topics include Texas as an "at-will" state; discrimination, harassment and retaliation and why you need to know about the "shifting burden of proof"; and the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) - the basics of this law and, after being amended, what it now covers.
In the afternoon, the basics of managing employees (hiring, firing, discipline and documentation); defensive drafting: handbooks and forms; investigating sensitive employment complaints; and annual employment reviews will be covered.
