University Of Texas To Hold Health Conference In Houston

On Wednesday through Friday, April 7 to 9, the University of Texas School of Law will hold its annual Health Law Conference at the Four Seasons Hotel in Houston.

The conference will begin with an optional Wednesday evening session from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A health law primer and in-house counsel panel discussion about the impact of federal health care reform, the operational impact of privacy requirements and current litigation-related issues will be discussed.

On Thursday, sessions run from 8:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and include such topics as Health Care Reform - an overview of the major elements of federal healthcare reform proposals, the recent history of the efforts by Congress to act on these matters, alternative proposals that are gaining traction and the political and market forces at play. A follow-up session to Health Care Reform will focus on the advent of Accountable Care Organization, bundled payments and electronic medical record connectivity.

After lunch, All Eyes on Quality: The increasing Role of Quality in Federal Program Payment and Enforcement Policies will be presented by Gregory Nolan Etzel, Baker & Hostetler. Other presenters include Glen A. Reed and Adam Robinson, King & Spalding LLP; Frankie S. Louis, Texas Children's Hospital, Legal Department; and Leah Beth Stewart and Elizabeth N. Rogers, Vinson & Elkins L.L.P.

On Friday, sessions run from 8:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and include Operational Impact of Significant Cases, Selected Medicare Issues of Current Interest, and Self-Disclosure of Healthcare Fraud and Abuse.
