University Of Texas To Explore Employment Law Basics

The University of Texas School of Law has planned the 2009 Essential Employment Law course for three dates and locations in September. On Thursday, September 10 it will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Houston; on Thursday, September 17 it will be held at the Cityplace Conference Center in Dallas, and on Friday, September 25 it will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin.

On all dates the course will run from 8:20 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Designed for human resources professionals and new entrants to the employment law field, Employment Law Basics will provide an overview and update of Texas employment law and best employment practices.Specific topics include Texas as an "at-will" state; discrimination, harassment and retaliation; wage and hour: an old law in a modern world; the FMLA; hiring, firing, discipline and documentation; investigating sensitive employment complaints; and annual performance reviews.

The course instructors are Connie L. Cornell, founding partner of Cornell Smith & Mierl, LLP, an Austin Labor and employment law firm, and Michael W. Fox, a shareholder of Ogletree Deakins and a fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.
