The State Bar of Texas has scheduled a two-day Advanced Civil Appellate Practice course for Thursday and Friday, September 10 and 11, at the Four Seasons Hotel, 98 San Jacinto Blvd. in Austin. The sessions will run from 8:30 a.m. until 4:50 p.m. day one and from 8:20 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. on day two.
The bar has also planned a Nuts and Bolts Appellate Practice course for Wednesday, September 9, also at the Four Seasons in Austin.
Among the topics to be explored are U.S. Supreme Court, Texas Supreme Court, and fifth circuit updates; a legislative and rules update; pre-trial case management: how appellate counsel can be effective in litigation; brief writing for the 21st century; Texas Supreme Court motions practice; and practical considerations for appellate lawyers with respect to the economic climate. Heather D. New and Karen S. Precella, both of Haynes and Boone, will present the Contrast Between State and Federal Court - Daubert/Robinson Review, and James C. Ho, the solicitor general of Texas, will discuss the Role of Appellate Lawyers at the Solicitor General's Office.
