Suing And Defending Government Entities Course Offered Live In July

The State Bar of Texas will offer its annual Suing and Defending Governmental Entities Course live in Austin on Thursday and Friday, July 21 to 22, at the Hyatt Regency in Austin.

A video replay of the course is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, August 25 and 26, at the Cityplace Conference Center in Dallas. The course will run from 8:45 to 5:15 on Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday.Best Practices in Government Law has been scheduled at the Austin location on Wednesday, July 20, and it will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Highlights include recent developments in individual and collective rights of governmental employees; the emergency exception to the Texas Tort Claims Act and how far it goes; sovereign immunity and the UDJA; and law enforcement and the ADA. Thursday's luncheon presentation will offer a defense of lawyers by the ultimate government lawyer, focusing on the role lawyers play in the preservation of justice and liberty, with Louis Karlin, research attorney with the 2nd Appellate District, California Court of Appeal, and Gerard Wegemer, University of Dallas.

A U.S. Supreme Court Update will be offered on Thursday by Lisa R. Eskow, Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP, and on Friday by Hon. Debra Lehrmann, Supreme Court of Texas.
