On Thursday and Friday, August 18 and 19, the State Bar of Texas will offer its annual Advanced Tax Law course at the Crowne Plaza River Oaks Hotel in Houston.
It will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The bar is also offering Tax Law 101 on Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 to 5:15 p.m.
On Thursday, partnership agreement drafting, a state and local tax law update, hot topics in LLCs and partnerships, criminal tax and FBAR, and the disposition of privately held businesses will be covered. On Thursday evening, Texas Ethics for CPAs will run from 4:30 to 8:45 p.m.
On Friday, the meaning of the codification of the economic substance doctrine,S-corps,current estate planning developments, including new planning paradigms under the tax reliefactof 2010, and a federal tax law update will be covered. A panel including Daniel Price, Office of the Chief Counsel, IRS; Victoria J. Sherlock, KPMG; and Hon. Juan F. Vasquez, judge, U.S. Tax Court, Washington DC, will discuss tax controversy.
