Stacy L. Cook has rejoined Barnes & Thornburg LLP as a partner in the firm’s Healthcare Department and the Data Security and Privacy Practice Group after spending two years in-house with the Indiana State Medical Association.
Cook concentrates her practice on regulatory and transactional issues, including fraud and abuse laws, billing and reimbursement, HIPAA compliance, and related litigation matters involving a wide variety of healthcare providers.
“We are happy to have Stacy rejoin the firm to help provide clients with critical representation on healthcare matters that affect their businesses,” said Brian L. Burdick, managing partner of the Indianapolis office.
She has experience representing healthcare providers before state and federal healthcare regulatory agencies and also assists clients in responding to privacy and security breaches, government investigations and audits, as well as to repayment inquiries and internal and external audits.
Cook previously practiced at the firm from 2006 to 2016, when she left for a two-year stint as general counsel of the Indiana State Medical Association, Indiana’s largest professional association for physicians. Her legal career began at a litigation firm in Kansas City, where her practice focused primarily on product liability defense, including medical devices and pharmaceuticals.
