Sills Cummis & Gross announces Valerie A. Hamilton's installment as President of the Bankruptcy Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA).
Ms. Hamilton has been an officer of the NJSBA since 2014 and has served in various capacities, including most recently serving as the Bankruptcy Law Section’s Chair-Elect. In 2016, Ms. Hamilton, as Vice Chair of the Bankruptcy Law Section, organized the 18th Annual William H. Gindin Bankruptcy Bench-Bar Conference. This day-long CLE conference brings together over 500 bankruptcy lawyers, judges, accountants and related professionals and features over 50 speakers.
Ms. Hamilton, Of Counsel to the Firm’s Creditors’ Rights/Bankruptcy Reorganization Practice Group, has represented Chapters 7 and 11 trustees, Chapter 11 debtors and creditor committees, and secured and unsecured creditors in bankruptcy cases and workout matters for over 20 years. She has significant experience in litigating complex matters in state and federal courts, including fraudulent transfer and preference actions, non-dischargeability suits, DIP financing and use of cash collateral, Chapter 11 plan negotiation, and enforcement of creditors’ rights under the Uniform Commercial Code, the Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act and state receivership laws. She also represents creditors in the collection of debts, including post-judgment collection and enforcement actions in state and federal courts.
Ms. Hamilton is a mediator in contested bankruptcy matters, having been appointed to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey’s mediation panel. She is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and serves as editor and author for the ABI’s Volo Project. She is also a member of the New Jersey Network of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation. She is a former member of the Lawyers’ Advisory Committee to the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey (2004-2010) and served as Chairperson of its Chapter 11 Sub-Committee (2009-2010).
