The Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals will hold a one-day Essentials Seminar at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach on Wednesday, September 14. This crash course for corporate secretaries addresses the fundamentals of corporate governance and provides basic training for those new to the function as well as a refresher for the experienced corporate secretary.
The Western Regional Conference follows on September 15 to 16, going beyond the basics. Participants may sign up for either Essentials or the Western Regional Conference or both at a discount.
Topics in the Essentials seminar include best practice in board meeting preparation, minute writing, annual meeting fundamentals, practical tips in subsidiary management, and SEC reporting and insider trading.
The regional conference on Thursday and Friday will include annual meetings - the current challenges; new strategies for communicating with shareholders; board succession planning and the role of the corporate secretary; social media; roundtable discussions of the most pressing governance issues - ask the experts and network at the same time; and learnings from 2011 and what to anticipate in 2012.
There will be a Wednesday reception that will be a joint event, with all attendees of the Essentials and the Western Regional Conference invited.
