Projects with Purpose and Beacon of Hope partnered to provide a humanitarian event with the Association of Corporate Counsel at their recent corporate counsel MBA event in Louisiana. The groups worked at Filmore Gardens in the Gentilly neighborhood in New Orleans. Attendees constructed a community garden, which provides the neighborhood with a safe haven, fresh vegetables, access to better nutrition, job opportunities and additional revenue for neighborhood revitalization through produce sales.
Having suffered the flooding effects following Hurricane Katrina, the Filmore Gardens residential area near the Mirabeau breach of the London Canal experienced damage to street lights, parks and roads as well as additional damage from disaster relief vehicles and equipment work beginning in the spring of 2006. The goal of Projects with Purpose and Beacon of Hope is to develop safe, clean, beautiful streets, parks, neutral grounds and this garden to improve the quality of life for the surrounding community.
