PLI To ExploreTax Planning For Corporate Alliances

The Practising Law Institute has scheduled a three-day seminar to trace the partnership tax rules through the life of a partnership, with an emphasis on tax issues and tax-planning strategies, and the exit strategies for when partnerships unwind.

Tax Planning for Domestic & Foreign Partnerships, LLCs, Joint Ventures, & Other Strategic Alliances 2010 will be held at the PLI California Center 685 Market Street in San Francisco from Wednesday to Friday, June 16 to 18. It will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. days one and two and from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. on day three.

On the first day, some sessions will review the basics. There willbe panels on partnership and LLC compensatory interests; a panel on taxation;sessions on disguised sales and guaranteed payments; a session on partnership mergers and divisions; a session on energy credit partnerships; a new panel on advanced Section 752 issues; and a two-hour session on the entire area of partnership workouts and debt structuring, among others topics.

Among the scheduled speakers are Carolyn Joy Lee, Jones Day; Stuart L. Rosow, Proskauer Rose LLP; Jeffrey Van Hove, deputy tax legislative counsel, U.S. Department of the Treasury; and R. David Wheat, Thomson & Knight LLP.
