The Practising Law Institute will hold a two-day program, The SEC Speaks 2010, with high-ranking officials from the Securities and Exchange Commission. The event is scheduled for Friday, February 5, and Saturday, February 6, at the International Trade Center, Ronald Reagan Building, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington DC.
On Friday, the sessions start at 9:00 a.m. and adjourn at 5:45 p.m. On Saturday the program will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will end by 3:00 p.m.
Attendees will have an opportunity to hear from the chairman, the commissioners and senior staff of the SEC, who will discuss the challenges of the financial crisis and the SEC's initiatives for the coming year. The program will offer a number of relevant workshops that will focus on various practice areas and sections of the SEC, such as enforcement, accounting, corporate finance, trading markets, investment management, compliance, and international developments. The workshops are designed with a give-and-take format so that participants can interact directly with staff to gain a greater understanding of the proposed regulation changes.
The faculty will include Hon. Luis A. Aguilar, commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.; Hon. Paul S. Atkins, managing director, Patomak Partners LLC, visiting scholar, American Enterprise Institute; Meredith B. Cross, director, Division of Corporation Finance, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; and Hon. Harvey J. Goldschmidt, Dwight Professor of Law, Columbia Law School and senior counsel, Weil Gotshal & Manges.
