The Colorado Bar has scheduled a CLE seminar, The Law of Planning and Conducting Layoffs, for Thursday, June 11, from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the CLECI Large Classroom in Denver.
In what has become one of the toughest recessions in recent memory, many companies are being forced to lay off employees just to survive. Attorneys assisting these companies need to give their clients practical advice on the best way to conduct layoffs to avoid liability and ensure the process is handled fairly.
An experienced faculty will answer pressing questions about layoffs, including the most practical approaches for downsizing, alternatives to layoffs, steps an employer should take when planning a layoff to protect the company from liability and discrimination, the WARN Act - who it applies to and what it means, what the Older Workers Benefits Protection Act (OWBPA) requires for releases in a group termination context; steps employers should take to keep their valuable intellectual property from leaving with their employees; the ten most common avoidable mistakes employers make when laying off employees, and more.
Among the faculty presenters are Daniel E. Friessen, Hale-Friesen, LLP; Dean C. Heizer, II, Heizer Paul, LLP; Brett C. Painter, Davis Graham & Stubbs, LLP; and Mary L. Will, Perkins Coie, LLP.
