The New York State Bar Association is hosting a meeting with the top officials from the United States Copyright Office on Tuesday, May 25, at the Pope Auditorium, Lincoln Center Campus of Fordham University, 113 West 60th Street in New York City.
The daylong program will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. and will be followed by a reception until 6:00 p.m. to meet with members of the Copyright Office.
Participants will meet the Register of Copyrights, Marybeth Peters, and other top officials from the U.S. Copyright Office. Attendees will learn the latest developments in copyright law and policy. Speakers from the Copyright Office and the private sector will discuss important aspects of copyright law and practice including recent litigation, the copyright registration process and current legislative activity, including the recent §1201 rulemaking on exceptions to the prohibition on circumvention, mandatory deposit of online works,and the Supreme Court's consideration of whether the registration requirement is jurisdictional.
The distinguished speakers include Ms. Peters; Maria Pallante, associate register for Policy & International Affairs, U.S. Copyright Office; David Carson, general counsel, U.S. Copyright Office; Robert Clarida, Cowan Liebowitz & Latman, P.C.; and Professor Hugh C. Hansen, Fordham University School of Law.
