The Ethics and Professionalism Section of the NYSBA announces a two-part seminar focused on ethics. It will be presented on Tuesday, December 8, at the Holiday Inn Rochester Airport, 911 Brooks Ave.
The first part of the session, The New Rules of Professional Conduct Eight Months Later, will focus on the Appellate Division's adopted new Rules of Professional Conduct, which put New York's disciplinary rules into the model rule format that is used throughout the nation. The new rules contain substantive changes.
The second part of the program - Ethical and Unethical Behavior on the Big Screen, Homage to the late Paul Newman - will focus on ethics and professionalism on the big screen. Participants will view film clips from major motion pictures depicting attorneys and the ethical and professional dilemmas they face. This engaging format will feature panel discussions of the issues raised in three Paul Newman movies, The Verdict, The Young Philadelphians and Absence of Malice.
The scheduled speakers are James T. Townsend (local chair), Remington, Gifford, Williams & Colicchio LLP; Sarah S. Merkel, The Wolford Law Firm LLP; Andrea E. Tomaino, Attorney Grievance Committee, Rochester; and Christopher K. Werner, Boylan, Brown, Code, Vigdor & Wilson.
