The Practising Law Institute will present a program covering the changes to environmental regulations titled Environmental Regulation and Commercial Implications 2010: How the New Administration, Congress and the Courts Have Changed the Rules.
On Friday, May 7, the live program will be held at PLI's New York Center at 801 Seventh Avenue in New York City and groupcast to the New Jersey Law Center at One Constitution Square in New Brunswick, New Jersey. It will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m.
The panel will discuss how environmental regulation has entered a new world with the election of President Barack Obama and the 111th Congress. New environmental laws have been enacted and regulations have been promulgated, and the courts have issued precedent-setting environmental decisions. Participants will learn of the impact these changes have for attorneys involved in environmental and corporate practice. They will also learn how to assist clients in matters ranging from environmental regulatory compliance to disclosure and enforcement, as well as address environmental issues in transactional contexts. Topics will include changes in laws dealing with climate change; statutory developments in the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts; chemical control regulations; and the key court decisions that have affected the interpretation and application of environmental regulatory requirements.
The speakers all are seasoned environmental practitioners, government officials and consultants and include Philip E. Karmel of Bryan Cave LLP; Rabi Kieber, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency;and Michael B. Gerrard, professor of professional practice, director, Center for Climate Change Law, Columbia Law School.
