Titled Women on the Move 2009: In the Driver's Seat, this NY State Bar Association program is scheduled for Thursday, April 2 from noon to 5:10 p.m. at the NYSBA Bar Center, 1 Elk Street, Albany, NY. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m.
The speakers will include Bernice K. Leber, Arent Fox LLP and president, NYSBA; Taa R. Grays, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and chair, NYSBA Committee on Women in the Law; Dr. Charles F. Seifert, professor, Siena College; Linda J. Clark, Hiscock & Barclay LLP and immediate past president, Capital District Women's Bar Association and current chair, New York State Conference of Bar Leaders.
The program is divided into panel discussions. The first, titled Leaders: In the Driver's Seat, will focus on leadership styles and attributes and will discuss the concept that leadership is a skill that requires constant self-evaluation and fine tuning. The second, Ethical Considerations and Reminders: Minimizing Common Ethical Blunders During an Uncommon Time of Ethical and Economic Unrest, is a learning session in which various scenarios and role-play will be utilized to discuss the role of lawyers in choosing clients, managing cases, managing fees, malpractice and withdrawing from cases. The third and last panel discussion, Legal Considerations for the 21st Century Practitioner:Equal Pay Act, Civil Rights Act, FMLA and Health Care Regulations, will address changing laws and their impact on women as well as men.
