The Voice of the Defense Bar is offering a three-day conference examining Civil Rights and Governmental Tort Liability Wednesday through Friday, January 26-28. This year the event is being held at the Ritz-Carlton, 921 Canal Street in New Orleans. The program begins Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m., and Thursday's sessions start at 8:00 a.m. and end at 6:00 p.m.On Friday, sessions begin at 8:00 a.m. and the conference adjourns at noon.
The annual civil rights and governmental tort liability seminar will cover a broad range of topics including Fencing with Expert Witnesses; The Science of Human Factors Research and It's Applications to Force Encounters; The Use of Statistics in Civil Rights Cases; First Amendment Rights; Monell and Supervisory Liability; Ethical Issues for Governmental Counsel; and a Case Study of Hurricane Katrina.
Participants will learn world-class strategies of well-known governmental tort liability attorneys, judges and jury analysts. The speakers will discuss case law and offer tips on litigating civil rights torts. They include Ben L. Mayeaux, Labord & Neuner; Raymond T. Diamond, Paul M. Herbert Law Center, Louisiana State University; the Honorable Christina M. Habas, Second Judicial District Court, Denver; and Karen M. Blum, Suffolk University Law School.
