The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) last month continued its 10th anniversary celebration by honoring the firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP at its Northeast Region Anniversary dinner in New York City.
Akin Gump was selected at the recipient of the Thomas J. Sager Award, named in honor of MCCA Chairman of the Board and DuPont Company Vice President and Assistant General Counsel Thomas L. Sager.
The award is given to law firms that demonstrate sustained commitment to improving the hiring, retention and promotion of minority attorneys.
Accepting the award on behalf of the firm were Akin Gump Chairman R. Bruce McLean and partner Trey Muldrow.
"We are very pleased that the Minority Corporate Counsel Association has once again recognized Akin Gump's commitment to developing and maintaining a diverse workforce of talented lawyers," Mr. McLean said. "We are proud of our record of success in the recruitment, retention and promotion of minorities and women and are committed to building upon it."
The New York dinner is part of an annual series of dinners designed to address issues of diversity in corporate law departments. MCCA diversity dinners also are held in Dallas, Washington, DC, San Francisco and Chicago.
The Minority Corporate Counsel Association is celebrating its 10th anniversary during 2007. In 10 years, MCCA's research and programs have empowered individuals in the legal profession to embrace diversity and strive to have inclusive business environments, said MCCA Executive Director Veta Richardson.
