Akin Gump announced that Matthew A. Kapinos has joined the firm as a partner in its energy practice in Houston. He comes to Akin Gump from McGuireWoods, where he was deputy head of its energy industry team.
Mr. Kapinos has been recognized for his work around project development, acquisitions, divestitures and strategic joint ventures encompassing a range of energy assets from upstream to midstream, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and traditional and renewable power, as well as related engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) matters.
Mr. Kapinos focuses his practice on assisting clients in all phases of drafting and negotiating agreements for the purchase, sale, development and financing of energy infrastructure and construction projects. In addition to those in the energy industry, he works with clients in the private equity and infrastructure fund spaces.

Before entering law school, he spent five years on active duty as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army, which included combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
