The Lawyers Alliance of New York will present a program titled Expanded Fundraising and Fee-Generating Activities: The Legal Framework on Wednesday, May 5 from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the offices of the Lawyers Alliance at 171 Madison Avenue in New York City.
Practitioners who work with nonprofit organizations will learn of legal and regulatory issues that nonprofit management should take into account when they engage in certain types of revenue-generation activities beyond traditional fundraising appeals. Many nonprofits are seeking new ways and different strategies for raising money, thus they need to evaluate the regulatory issues surrounding new types of fee-generating activities.
Topics will include contract and compliance issues when using fundraising professionals; issues particular to special events and online fundraising; legal restrictions and requirements for IRC 501(c)(3) organizations that charge fees for some services; and recent changes in New York sales tax rules that require organizations to collect sales tax for certain fundraising activities.
