On Thursday, January 13, Lawyers Alliance of New York is offering a workshop focusing on the Incorporation, Tax Exemption and Fiscal Sponsorship in forming a nonprofit organization.The workshop will be at Lawyers Alliance, 171 Madison Avenue in New York City. The seminar will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will end at 11:30 a.m.
Forming a nonprofit organization is among the most satisfying, rewarding and challenging opportunities one can undertake. Getting a nonprofit off to the right start can mean the difference between success and failure. The workshop will review the basic questions regarding the benefits and obligations of incorporation and tax-exempt status and will explain the requirements for qualification as a New York State not-for-profit corporation.
The workshop will also explore the benefits of federal tax-exemption and the process for seeking that recognition, including the requirements of charitable purpose and charitable class, the need to project specific revenues and expenses, the limitations on lobbying and political activities, and all aspects of the application process.
