The Los Angeles County Bar has scheduled a morning CLE event, Persuasive Legal Writing, for Wednesday, January 20, at LACBA, 1055 West 7th Street in Los Angeles.
The program will run from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Designed for attorneys of all experience levels, this seminar, taught by noted appellate attorney Daniel U. Smith, advocates brevity, simplicity and clarity - the opposite of what lawyers are taught in law school. Mr. Smith will show how to persuade a skeptical judge by creating effective headings, para-graphs, and sentences and steps for easy drafting and editing. Attendees will learn more than 70 tips to write clear and compelling prose, write shorter briefs quickly and enjoyably, write briefs that please both the judge and the client, and to increase the chances of winning. Past attendees consider this a CLE event that shouldn't be missed.
Mr. Smith, a certified appellate specialist, graduated from Boalt Hall, where he was an editor of the California Law Review. He was named Appellate Lawyer of the Year in 2002 by Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles and is a member of the California Academy of Appellate lawyers.
