On Thursday, October 7, the Los Angeles County Bar Association will explore the Future of Big Law: Business as Usual or a New Paradigm? at the Los Angeles County Bar Association, 1055 West 7th Street in Los Angeles.
The Program will begin at 5:30 p.m. with meal and reception and the program follows from 6:00 to 7:30.
Like most sectors of the economy, the legal industry is evolving rapidly as a result of the economic turmoil. Some argue that no area of the industry has been as affected by this upheaval as "big law" - the practice of law at the country's largest firms. This panel, composed of large law firm partners, general counsel, and experts in the industry, will address some of the challenges facing large law firms.
Panelists include Jerry Coben, Zeughauser Group; Stuart A. Forsyth, former LACBA executive director; Rex S. Heinke, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP; John Page, Golden State Foods, Inc.; and Fram Virjee, O'Melveny & Myers. They will address topics ranging from the growth of alternative billing arrangements, the nature of those arrangements and the consequences of failing to consider alternative arrangements; pressures on the firm structure and how those pressures may impact partners and associates; outsourcing legal and non-legal services; and the need to balance high-quality work with efficient service.
