Implications of Social Media Examined In Colorado Seminar

The Legal and Ethical Implications of Social Media, a live seminar being presented on Thursday, December 9, will be held at the CLECI Large Classroom, 1900 Grant Street in Denver. It will be followed by an optional lunch program at the Denver Chop House, 1735 19th Street #100 in Denver.

In the morning CLE program, which begins at 8:30 a.m., CBA President Paul Chan will cover the issues, case law, and ethics rules related to securing and safeguarding confidential client information, emails, metadata and social networking. Next, David K. Isom, corporate trial lawyer and electronic discovery consultant, Isom Law Firm, will examine what a Colorado lawyer must find and what he/she must ignore to do electronic discovery competently and ethically. Finally, Paul Karlsgodt, partner, Baker Hostetler LLP, will discuss strategies for using social media in legal marketing while avoiding ethical problems, such as violations of restrictions on attorney advertising and trial publicity, conflicts of interest, and breaches of client confidentiality.

The program adjourns at 11:15 to the optional IP luncheon, where Nicole Black, a nationally known lawyer, author, and speaker, will discuss a practical, goal-centric approach to using social media in the law practice that will enable attendees to identify social media platforms and tools that fit your practice.
