The Houston Bar Association has scheduled two seminars in June that may be of interest to corporate counsel.
The first, Flying Without Fear, is scheduled for Thursday, June 11, from 8to 9:30 a.m. in the West Loop Area at the Junior League of Houston.Katherine T. Mize of Adams and Reese LLP will explore dealing with challenging employees and the issues employers should consider before firing an employee, including the bases for retaliation claims, new law regarding disability claims, the Family and Medical Leave Act, commonly asserted grounds for wrongful termination, and pay issues, including overtime and equal pay.
In the second seminar, Champion of the Overprivileged: Tricks and Traps in Representing Corporate Executives,speakers Ashton Bachynsky and Daryl Carter of Glickman, Carter & Bachynsky will cover the issues in representing corporate executives.They will discuss the ethical considerations when an employer pays an executive's legal fees and concerns when representing more than one executive from the same company. Scheduled for Thursday, June 25, this seminar will also be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Junior League in the West Loop area.
