On Friday, September 17, nearly 100 Houston Bar Association members, including 17 judges, read to students in 100 elementary schools in the Houston area to celebrate Constitution Day. They discussed the book The Bill of Rights by Norman Pearl to students in 19 school districts and in some private schools.
Constitution Day is a nationally recognized holiday that commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1781. Educators throughout the U.S. are encouraged to teach students about one of the most important events in American history, which established the many rights and freedoms "We the People" enjoy today. Each year, HBA provides reading programs and other activities in schools throughout Harris County to make the Constitution come alive for students.
Among the bar members who participated are Houston Bar Association President Mark Kelly, Hon. Kem Frost, Fourteenth Court of Appeals, and Fermeen Fazal of Gibson & Bruns LLP.
