Georgia Bar Offers Health Care Fraud Institute In Atlanta

The Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia will host the Southeastern Health Care Fraud Institute on Thursday, December 16, at the State Bar of Georgia Headquarters at 104 Marietta Street, NW in Atlanta.

The seminar will begin at 8:30 a.m. and adjourn at 4:00 p.m.

Health care fraud and health care issues are pressing legal issues.All practitioners should take the opportunity to learn of the new initiatives to combat fraud in the health care sector.

The seminar will begin with an overview of government enforcement at the federal and state levels. A panel led by government officials will discuss the basis for criminal and civil liability for health care fraud, recent enforcement actions and initiatives and the future of criminal and civil health care fraud enforcement. The panelists are Amy L. Berne, chief assistant, U.S. Attorney's Office in Georgia; Charles M. Richards, State Health Care Fraud Control Unit; and Brian T. Rafferty, assistant U.S. attorney, U.S. Attorney's Office, Georgia.

Other topics include Health Care Providers: Role of the Compliance Officer, General Counsel and the Board, and Affirmative Responses to Government Action. Panel discussions will review the roles and responsibilities of the key organization representatives in internal and external compliance and enforcement matters, parallel proceedings, subpoenas and grand jury proceedings. The panelists are J. Steven Hinkle, Ardent Health Services, LLC; Glennon E. Moyers, KPMG LLP; and Richard H. Deane, Jones Day.
