Georgetown Law And ACC To Host Institute For Corporate Counsel

ACC and the Georgetown University Law Center have jointly planned the annual Corporate Counsel Institute: Change Comes to Washington and What It Means for In-house Counsel. It will be held Thursday and Friday, March 10 and 11, at Georgetown University Law Center, 600 New Jersey Avenue, NW in Washington, DC.

On Thursday, the program will run from 8:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., and on Friday it will run from 8:00 a.m. until 3:15 p.m.

Thursday will begin with the keynote address by the Honorable Jacob J. Lew (invited), director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, who will discuss administrative priorities affecting the corporate sector. A panel that includes Paul D. Clement, King & Spalding LLP, and Walter Dellinger, O'Melveny & Myers, LLP, will review recent Supreme Court decisions affecting corporate practice.David Hirschmann, president & CEO of the Center for Capital Markets Competitiveness, president & CEO of the Global Intellectual Property Center and senior vice president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, will provide an overview of financial regulatory reform, covering the Dodd-Frank Act and how its provisions will impact companies outside the financial sector; new SEC rules on proxy access and executive pay; and new whistleblower rules.In the afternoon, attendees will choose between concurrent sessions: financial regulatory reform and what non-financial companies need to know about implementation and impact, and three perspectives on the healthcare reform requirements.

On Friday, the program starts with a legal ethics roundtable led by Professor Russell B. Stevenson, Georgetown University Law Center. He will moderate a discussion about ethics issues for in-house counsel with panelists Andrea Bonime-Blanc, general counsel, Daylight Forensic & Advisory LLC and John K. Villa, Williams & Connolly LLP. Other topics on Friday include cyber security and data breaches, trends at the SEC, and a general counsel roundtable that will discuss how the role of the GC is evolving.
