A message from NYSBA President Stephen P. Younger:
"I am pleased to inform all of our members that Ken Standard, our esteemed colleague and former president, is going to be honored at the American Bar Association's mid-year meeting in Atlanta. He is the recipient of the Life Achievement Award for Excellence in Pipeline Diversity. It is a great honor, and I was proud to have nominated Ken.
"The award is given to an individual or organization for increasing diversity in the legal profession by working along the educational pipeline to expand the success of underrepresented students, focusing on education from elementary to high school, and from college and law school into the practice of law. I can't think of anyone more deserving than Ken.
"While Ken has achieved great personal success, he has spent a lifetime in assisting those who followed him. While formerly at Bristol-Myers and now at Epstein, Becker & Green, he has been a leader in expanding opportunities for the underrepresented.
"For us in the New York State Bar Association, Ken has been the standard bearer in increasing diversity. In his term as president, he worked tirelessly and successfully to bring greater diversity not only to our membership, but, significantly, to leadership positions in the house of delegates and executive committee. Since his presidency, he has continued these efforts as committee chair. One of his major achievements was the institution of Youth Law Days, which introduces high school students of color to New York's law schools.
"In short, the ABA award is one that Ken has truly earned. I hope that you will join me in congratulating him."
