On Thursday through Saturday, February 17-19, the American Law Institute-American Bar Association presents a seminar examining Eminent Domain and Land Valuation Litigation. It will be held at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables, 50 Alhambra Plaza in Coral Gables, Florida, and it will run from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:15 p.m. Friday, and on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until noon.
The power of eminent domain is being reshaped across the nation by court rulings and legislation. Much of the recent court activity and legislation has involved the controversial use, or attempted use, of eminent domain power to take private property for economic development by private parties. This national conference addresses those areas where new developments in the law and procedure will reshape the practice.
The courses will focus on defending against private development; the just compensation failings of the rails to trails program; new media strategies for marketing your eminent domain practice; the economic failings under Penn Central Test; and due process and non-compensable damages.
The speakers include James S. Burling, director of litigation, Pacific Legal Foundation; Leslie A. Fields, Faegre & Benson LLP; Timothy P. Chinaris, associate dean for Information Resources and professor of law, Thomas Goode Jones School of Law, Faulkner University; and Kenneth S. Shiner, senior counsel, McDonald's Corporation.
