On Thursday, November 18, the University Of Texas School Of Law will hold the Essential Employment Law Course - A Practical Course in the Basics at the Norris Conference Center CityCentre in Houston.
The seminar begins at 8:20 a.m. with opening remarks and adjourns at 4:45 p.m. The registration fee includes a copy of the Essential Employment Law Handbook, which costs $125 without conference registration.
Course instructors Connie L. Cornell, a founding partner of Cornell Smith & Mierl, LLP and Michael W. Fox, a shareholder in the Austin office of Ogletree Deakins, will provide an overview and update of employment law in Texas. Attendees will learn best employment practices and come away with a full suite of detailed written materials, such as sample employment contracts, forms and handbook recommendations.
The course is designed for HR professionals and new entrants to the employment law field. Specific topics to be covered include Texas as an "at-will" state, discrimination and harassment, wage and hour, the Family Medical Leave Act and, for practical application, hiring, firing and discipline documentation, investigating sensitive employment complaints, and annual performance reviews.
