On Thursday and Friday, July 15 and 16, the American Law Institute-American Bar Association are sponsoring a conference titled Insurance and Financial Services Litigation.
The program will be held at the Millennium Knickerbocker at 164 East Walton Place in Chicago. It is scheduled for Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. and on Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The market and political turmoil of the past year has generated an explosion of litigation targeting the insurance and financial services industries. The program is designed for practitioners who need to stay abreast of the most important litigation developments affecting the industries.
Some of the main topics will include the following: updates on settlements and trials of cases involving life insurance and annuities; review of recent trends and key developments in mutual fund litigation, including the Madoff fraud cases; analysis of developments in class actions against pension plan providers and sponsors in the 401(k), 457, and 403(b) markets, including developments in stock drop cases; and perspectives from the defense and plaintiffs' bars and from the judiciary and regulatory communities.
At this conference, attendees will be given information on developments with litigation arising from the changes in the marketing, sale, and administration of financial and insurance products, including annuities, life insurance, variable products, retirement plan contracts, mutual funds, health insurance, disability insurance, long term care, and other consumer and commercial financial and insurance products.
Among the speakers are Wayne R. Anderson, judge, U.S. District Court, Chicago; Charles Joshua Felker, assistant director, enforcement, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; and Emily Gordy, senior vice president, director, FINRA.
