The DC Bar Association has scheduled a seminar titled "Commercial Divorce": Help Clients Avoid & Confront the Demise of Business Relationships for Wednesday, October 7, from 6 to 9:15 p.m. at the DC Bar Conference Center, 1101 K Street NW (Metro Center).
Lawyers who represent business clients will benefit from this course. When business entities, such as partnerships and corporations, are formed, there isn't a focus on potential disputes and how they might affect the viability of an entity. Commercial "divorces" can be avoided with planning and risk management. The faculty will help participants to be alerted to problem areas and understand what can go wrong; teach legal professionals to analyze the terms of various agreements (business formation, governance, and buy/sell documents) in the context of a potential commercial divorce; and explain the benefits and drawbacks of litigating, arbitrating and mediating commercial divorce disputes.
The scheduled speakers are Cary Feldman of Feldman Tucker Leifer Fidell LLP; Susan Hepner, RAFFA P.C.; and Richard Levie of JAMS.
