Austin ACC Chapter Hosts MBA Course

On Thursday and Friday, September 16 and 17, the Austin ACC Chapter will host a Pocket MBA at the offices of Vinson & Elkins LLP, 2801 Via Fortuna, Suite 100 in Austin.

It will run for a full day on Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and for a half day on Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

Attorneys often lack an adequate understanding of finance and accounting. This isn't surprising as many in-house practitioners had a traditional liberal arts education and law firm experience and little exposure to finance and accounting principles. Just as the legal profession has its own standards and norms and terminology, so does the business world.

To this end, the ACC Austin Chapter has begun a "what you didn't learn in law school" series. The Corporate Counsel Pocket MBA, taught by professors from the University of Texas McCombs School of Business, will focus on finance and accounting principles. Attendees will learn about finance, accounting, strategy and marketing. Examples will be tailored for in-house counsel. Material will be presented in a small setting that will provide a hands-on analysis rather than a traditional lecture format.
