The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) elected J. Alberto Gonzalez-Pita as chair of its board of directors at its 2010 Annual Meeting in San Antonio in October. Mr. Gonzalez is executive vice president and general counsel at HCP, Inc. A member of ACC since 2000, he has served on the ACC board since 2005. Two other newly elected members, along with Mr. Gonzalez-Pita, will provide strategic guidance to the association on matters affecting its 26,000 members.
Mr. Gonzalez-Pita joined HCP, Inc. as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary in May 2010. He previously served as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of Las Vegas Sands Corp., executive vice president and general counsel of Tyson Foods, Inc. and vice president and general counsel of BellSouth International. Prior to that, he was an executive partner at White & Case LLP, one of the world's largest law firms.
Also joining the ACC board of directors this year are Mary E. Kennard, vice president and general counsel of American University and Deirdre Stanley, executive vice president and general counsel of Thomson Reuters. The newly elected members will serve a three-year term, ending October 2013.
"This is a time of growth and change for ACC. As we pass the 26,000-member mark and launch our first Latin American chapter, we are fortunate to have Al Gonzalez-Pita as chair and Mary and Deidre on our board to provide continued direction and leadership," said ACC President Frederick J. Krebs. "They bring a wide array of knowledge, experience and diverse viewpoints, and will enable ACC to continue its leadership role in addressing issues of importance to the in-house counsel community."
