Arizona Bar To Host Working With The Court of Appeals

The State Bar of Arizona is planning a day-long seminar titled Working With the Arizona Court of Appeals for Friday, November 7, at the Desert Botanical Garden, 1201 N. Galvin Parkway, Phoenix.

The program is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Attendees will learn important aspects of taking appeals from the point of view of appellate judges and their staff. Topics include the following: what most influences judges in briefs and oral argument, how judges reach decisions in appeals, avoiding malpractice by ensuring you have preserved issues and arguments on appeal, taking the necessary steps for the appeal, how to structure and write your brief, how to prepare for oral argument and what to argue, a discussion of major criminal and civil appellate decisions, when you should take special action, working with appellate clerks and staff attorneys, and the role of appellate mediation.

The seminar faculty is made up of Arizona Court judges. Among them are the Hon. J. William Brammer, Jr., the Hon. Peter J. Eckerstrom, the Hon. Patrick Irvine, the Hon. Diane M. Johnsen, and the Hon. Donn Kessler. Other presenters are clerks and staff attorneys and practitioners. The program chair is Thomas L. Hudson, Osborn Maledon PA.
