ACCA-SoCal Salutes Women Who Inspire Us

On Thursday, June 23, ACCA-SoCal and Hogan Lovells invite members and a guest to attend the 8th Annual Accolades event, a cocktail reception at the legendary Ebell of Los Angeles, where the chapter will honor Sandi "Mama" Romero, cofounder of Mama's Hot Tamales Café, and Laura Sobrino, female mariachi pioneer.

The program will run from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. Guests will enjoy drinks, hors d'oeuvres and live music as the sun sets on this historic venue, which was once known as the largest women's club in the world and an educational and philanthropic organization founded by women in 1894.

Mama's Hot Tamales Café is a nonprofit, apprentice-operated business and job-training restaurant that provides hands-on and classroom instruction designed to train low- and moderate-income residents living in central Los Angeles for a successful career path in the culinary world.

Ms. Sobrino is one of the first women mariachi performers in the U.S. She was the first female to perform with several all-male mariachi groups in Los Angeles, and she was one of the Hispanic women honorees hand selected by First Lady Maria Shriver for the "Latinas: The Spirit of California" exhibit at the CA Museum for History, Women & the Arts ('05). She was a music lecturer at UC Riverside and has devoted many years to mariachi education and empowering young women to follow in her footsteps.
