The ABA's Section of Antitrust Law has scheduled a two-day conference for Thursday and Friday, June 18 and 19 on consumer protection at Georgetown University Law Center, 600 New Jersey Avenue, Northwest, Washington, D.C.
Registration on day one will begin at 12:30 p.m. followed by presentations from 1 to 5 p.m. The day will conclude with a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m. at the Dubliner Restaurant and Pub on 520 North Capitol Street, Northwest, Washington, D.C.
On day two, registration will be at 8 a.m. with the program starting at 8:30 a.m. and concluding at 5:30 p.m.
The program co-chairs are Professor Rebecca Tushnet of Georgetown University Law School and John E. Villafranco of Kelley Drye & Warren.
This comprehensive conference will bring together the leading government enforcers, public interest lawyers, academics, and private practitioners to discuss the pressing issues related to consumer protection law, with an emphasis on consumer understanding of information related to product benefits and risks.
Officials in charge of consumer protection for the Attorneys General of Florida and New Jersey will address states' issues. Leading academics, in-house counsel, and representatives from the National Advertising Review Council, National Advertising Division, among others will also speak. U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Selby Ellis, III will participate on a panel concerning the role of extrinsic evidence in Lanham Act litigation.
The conference will address among other topics protection privacy and securing information, managing risks in new technologies, consumer research in policy-making, the use of extrinsic evidence in cases of deception and unfairness, green marketing, consumer protection in financial transactions and the need for a Financial Products Safety Commission.
